  1. Gear Up with SQL Server 2014  Durability Control (Dudu Sinai, Madeira)

SQL Server 2014 presents a noticeable change with the ability to control transaction durability at the database or transaction level. This new revolutionary mode of work with the transaction log allows an unprecedented boost of performance in certain situations. In this session we will go through the key logic of the different approaches and provide a quick glance on scenarios that will benefit from using it.

Dudu Sinai is a technology expert who can understand any technology and dive quickly into the details, especially if it's SQL Server. Throughout his career he has been troubleshooting so many areas within SQL Server, and this vast experience allows him to get to the root cause of any problem. Dudu is also an excellent presenter. In addition to speaking in various events, he is also instructing many courses.

  1. The Art of Joining Datasets (Maria Zakourdaev, Perion)

Regular programming languages are quite straightforward - you write a code and it gets executed in the exact manner as you implemented it. Transact-SQL, which has its origins in a set theory, is a lot more abstract. Your query only describes what you want but the data gets processed in a way that the optimizer chooses. You pick one type of join and it gets replaced with a different one. You can try several ways of writing the query but keep getting the same execution plan. Come to this session to understand the differences and similarities between the various join operators, to understand what each one of them is exactly doing and how the optimizer decides which physical operation you really need to get your data back as fast as possible.

Maria Zakourdaev (Blog|Twitter) is a Data Architect from Perion. She is a DBA with more than 12 years of experience and a native T-SQL speaker.
