  1. Memory Timeouts (Avi Niv, Madeira)

Timeouts are usually attributed to bottlenecks, usually blocking locks. Those locks mostly concern CPU and I/O, however less common are memory locks and memory timeouts. In this session we will re-produce such timeouts and investigate the causes and mechanism behind it, using the tools provided by SQL Server, all in effort to track and resolve those soft points.

Avi Niv (Blog) is an expert in SQL Server administration and development. He has over 8 years of experience with SQL Server as well as with system infrastructures and with development projects. Avi works in Madeira as a senior consultant.

  1. AlwaysOn Availability Groups on Azure – Lessons from the Field (Guy Rafalovich, Fixya)

When running SQL Server in an Azure virtual machine, there are special considerations that should be taken. When availability groups are involved, then it's getting even more complicated and different than an on-premise implementation. You need to consider things like storage performance limitation, network latency and stability, security and more. Guy Rafalovich has seen it all and successfully implemented an AlwaysOn solution in Azure. In this session, Guy will share his experience and provide some valuable tips that you wouldn't hear about anywhere else…

Guy Rafalovich has been leading people, processes and technologies in various fields, such as: IT, Operations, Support, Database and Development. He has over 15 years of experience with various mission critical production environments and countless development projects.
