August 2015 Israel PASS Chapter Meeting

  • In-Person @ 2 HaPnina St. Raanana, HaSharon, Israel (map)
  • 17:30 - 20:30 Jerusalem Daylight Time
  • Language: English

  1. Extended Events to the Rescue (Guy Glantser, Madeira)

Extended Events is a highly scalable and highly configurable monitoring platform, which every DBA must be familiar with. It has many advantages over alternative tools, such as SQL Trace or Dynamic Management Views. In some cases, it is the only tool that can provide the desired monitoring solution.

In this session we will demonstrate several common use cases, such as monitoring query waits, troubleshooting deadlocks and monitoring page splits. We will demonstrate how to setup an event session for each use case, and how to analyze the collected data in a meaningful way. By the end of this session, you'll have several practical monitoring and troubleshooting solutions to apply on your environment.

Guy Glantser (Blog|Twitter), SQL Server MVP, is the leader of the Israeli SQL Server user group and also the CEO of Madeira. His career has been focused on SQL Server for the past 18 years, performing various database roles as either an on-site DBA, an external consultant or an instructor. Guy is involved in many activities in the SQL Server community. He occasionally speaks at community events, such as Tech-Ed, PASS Summit, SQL Rally, SQLBits and user groups around the world. He also co-hosts the SQL Server radio show.
